Greet and register all patients who present themselves for Emergency care services. Obtains all necessary demographic and financial information to complete the registration process to ensure legal and accurate billing. Completes medical record and all appropriate signatures and consents. Coordinate with physicians, nursing, other hospital staff and third party payers to ensure patient access to care. Support the mission, vision, and values of LAUMC-Rizk Hospital and that of the department.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)
Patient Relations Responsibilities:  Ensure compliance with requirements needed in terms of documents and financial arrangements.  Interview patients/representatives to obtain or verify personal identification information.  Explain content/intent of documents (consents) and obtain patient/legal representative signatures.  Interact professionally, respectfully, and in an empathetic manner with patients/families, under all circumstances, taking into consideration the diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.  Communicate persuasively and professionally with third party payers and social service agencies  Provide explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.  Ensure confidentiality of patient records and information at all times.  Provide clerical and reception functions for visitors and patients.  Refer special issues to ER supervisor when needed.  Helps the supervisor in completing the tasks needed. Functional / Administrative Responsibilities:  Register patients attending the Emergency Department into hospital records database in a timely manner. Ensure most acute patients are registered as a priority (according to triage category).  Allocate a unique Medical Record number for new patients after performing a thorough search in on the system.  Responsible for ensuring all data entered in hospital system and paperwork is accurate and updated as further information is provided.  Verify third-party payer coverage eligibility. Ensure that financial coverage for admission and/or clearance for service/surgical/medical procedure.  Determine in coordination with Billing and Cashier, payment amount to be secured by self-paying patients or co-payments/uncovered services and supplies by the third party coverage.  Provide patient identification labels for all patients collect appropriate paperwork and deliver file to the concerned unit.  After working hours all the main admission urgent duties and referred to the ER admission department.  Answer all internal and external calls and respond accordingly. Attend to incoming and outgoing faxes/emails.  Provide patient transport to another destination by ambulance or as appropriate.  Responsible for contacting local law enforcement agencies when necessary.  Follow and ensure strict safety procedures.  Respect and adhere to the mission, vision, and values of LAUMC-RH.  Initiate actions to predict the occurrence of non-conformities in materials and services.  Perform other duties pertinent to this job as appropriate or as required.
 High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor degree in Business Administration preferred. Minimum of 3 years work experience in similar field.  Knowledge of medical terminology  Good knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).  Excellent verbal and written English skills. French is a plus.
