Bringing Care Closer to Families in Roumieh

At Family Health Day, the LAU Mobile Clinic helped connect families with free health assessments, clinical expertise, and practical guidance on prevention.

Prevention and early detection guided this year’s Family Health Day, which marked the LAU Mobile Clinic’s 450th mission. Held on October 10, 2026, at Mar Abda Church Square, the annual event welcomed more than 250 family members and visitors from Roumieh and surrounding areas. Of these, 200 registered for and received health screening services through the mobile clinic.

LAU’s Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing organized the event in collaboration with Dr. Laurie Abi Habib and the Roumieh Municipality Health Committee. Services addressed the needs of children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.

Physicians from LAU Medical Centers–Rizk and Saint John’s Hospitals contributed their clinical expertise alongside healthcare professionals from Dahr Al Bachek Hospital. Community partners included DiaLeb, SAIDNGO, the Barbara Nassar Association, Ithmar, and Beirut Al Kubra Lions Club.

Through the LAU Mobile Clinic, the Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing and DiaLeb provided blood sugar screenings, while nursing students conducted blood pressure checks, for a combined total of 200 screenings. Beirut Al Kubra Lions Club provided 150 vision tests, 70 hearing tests, and 50 audiograms, and SAIDNGO provided 100 FIT tests for colorectal cancer screening.

More than 200 free consultations and expert advice sessions complemented these assessments. Healthcare professionals provided guidance on diabetes, hypertension, obesity, breast and colorectal cancer, immunization, and nutrition, alongside ADHD, anxiety, addiction, and other mental health concerns. The LAU Mobile Clinic also offered ECG testing. Combining assessments with on-the-spot advice helped participants identify potential health concerns and understand how to address them.

“Family Health Day reflects our belief that good health begins in the community,” said Dr. Bahia Abdallah, Associate Professor, Nursing Program Director, and Assistant Dean at LAU’s Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing. “Through the LAU Mobile Clinic, we bring the expertise and compassionate care of our medical centers beyond their walls, offering free screenings, early detection, health education, and psychological support to families who may otherwise face barriers to care.”

Senior nursing students worked alongside students from the LAU School of Pharmacy, the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine, and the Psychology and Nutrition and Dietetics programs at the School of Arts and Sciences. Responding to families’ questions and health needs allowed them to apply their learning in a community setting and experience how interprofessional teamwork supports care.

Visitors included Roumieh Deputy Mayor Mr. Adel Zeinoun; MP Elias Hankash; Dr. Costantine Daher, Professor and Dean of LAU’s Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing; Dr. Naser Alsharif, Professor and Dean of LAU’s School of Pharmacy; and Dr. Maroun Sfeir of Dahr Al Bachek Hospital.

During his visit to the LAU Mobile Clinic, MP Hankash called for more frequent outreach to villages across Lebanon, emphasizing how these initiatives can raise health awareness and encourage preventive health checks.

Through its continuing missions, the LAU Mobile Clinic extends this commitment beyond a single event, bringing preventive care closer to communities and helping people address health concerns earlier. Each mission supports the same purpose: helping families lead healthier lives.
